Hunter Hawker
Team Franklin candidate for
Waiuku Local Board

Community Integrity Practicality

About me
I'm Hunter Hawker, a Waiuku business owner & local farm owner, bringing practical, results- driven experience and an understanding of local issues to the Franklin Local Board. I'm committed to fostering local prosperity, improving community infrastructure, and ensuring Waiuku's voice is heard.
What I can offer Waiuku:
Community
I’ve dedicated years to serving Waiuku through charitable initiatives through the Highside project on my Karioitahi Farm. We are replanting the land and creating walkways which one day I hope to make public. My paragliding business offers ‘flight therapy’ fostering hope and connection for those with disabilities or depression. We host young ‘Eco Warriors’ from the local school to plant on our land, giving the next generation the gift of nature connection.
Integrity
I believe it's about getting the basics right. Roading, infrastructure, protecting our coastal areas and common sense. I don't have a grand vision of being NZ's next Prime Minister or desire for a local vanity project. I was honoured to be asked to stand for the local board. I'm community focused and if called will show up to fight for local voices and advocate for our amazing area. My priority is to listen to local voices and bring those voices to bare on local issues.
Practicality
As an ex-Air New Zealand pilot, I honed leadership and decision-making in high-pressure settings. My architecture degree, construction and property development experience equip me to tackle planning and infrastructure challenges creatively and effectively. Everyday I'm out on the land finding solutions to problems. If I get elected onto the Franklin local board I will bring my passion for solving problems to our community everyday. I'll get it done.

What I get up to

I live in Karioitahi with my beautiful wife Hannah, we got married right here on our land 2 years ago.
We found our Cat 'Clover Rain' on the farm when she was only 8 weeks old. She now she follows us everywhere.
Waiuku Primary School grew and planted 876 native plants on our land with the support of the amazing organisation 'Trees for Survival'.

I've been paragliding for over 20 years and bought 'The Highside' as a project that I'm developing into NZ's first flight park. I also teach others to fly and offer tandem trial flights.
I'm passionate about sharing the gift of flight to those who might most benefit. Lisa is an inspiring young lady who joined me on an epic flight using a special harness.
With the help of our amazing Volunteer Army we are upgrading tracks and replanting our land with the hope of one day creating public parks and walks.
